Abstract

The Standards Committee of the Optical Society of America came into full "standing" committee status in 1980. Subsequently, a long range plan for committee activities was drafted. This plan included an initial assessment of the community's perception of the need for uniform optical standards. It was decided that a useful mechanism would be to survey the various segments of the industry such as users, manufacturers, government labs, industry and academia by means of a questionnaire.
