Abstract
It is well known that thin films within a certain thickness range will display interference colors. This is commonly seen for oil films on water surfaces, for thermal oxide on silicon, etc. This behavior is used to technological advantage when fabricating optical filters using multilayers of thin transparent films. It is also the basis for the thermal oxide thickness/color appearance charts that often appear in semiconductor processing textbooks.
