Abstract
The simultaneous excitation of two levels by a short and coherent light pulse leads to a modulation of the polarization with a frequency ν=ΔE/h, where ΔE is the energy splitting of the states. These so-called quantum beats have been recently reported for quantum well structures[1,2] and other semiconductors.[3,4]
