Abstract
The achievement of high-speed capability, a large memory capacity and low cost technology is the main theme for developing Magneto-Optical (MO) data storage devices. In order to achieve the high-speed capability, we have some means such as multiplying data channels, direct overwriting and high-speed modulation. For realizing the high-speed modulation, MO disks have to have the property of high-speed response to laser heating and cooling in thermo- magnetic recording. The MO disk's thermal response ; 1-exp(-t/τ) (heating) and exp(-t/τ) (cooling) has a representative parameter τ1). The t is the time in the modulation process. The smaller the τ is, the faster the MO disk responds to the modulation. In this paper, we experimentally and analytically investigate the medium velocity dependence of τ.
