Abstract

Developing a small optical pickup is a key point in making a high-performance optical disk memory system. To do this, it is important to develop a single-chip multifunctional photo detector that can detect servo signals and the read-out signal simultaneously. One of the best ways to make such a smart detector, or an Integrated Optical Pickup (IOP)1), is to use waveguide components.
